I was just thinking last night about how women can take a compliment and turn it into an insult. It's not even very hard. Proof that we really are gluttons for punishment. Or maybe it's not women, maybe it's just me. I shouldn't generalize I don't want to take anyone down with me.
Don't know what I'm talking about?
Need an example.
Last night I finished one of my Christmas knitting projects. I showed it to Steve and he very nicely said, "Wow, that looks like you could pick it up off of a store shelf." My very first thought was: as opposed to all the other stuff I make that looks like crap, you mean. Luckily for him I have a filter and didn't say that out loud, but it was the first thing through my head. Before thank you or oh, how nice. I was thinking about this and realized it's very easy for me to see the dark side of a compliment.
Poor Steve he's not safe saying anything.
You look nice today ~ unlike every other day
Those pants make you look skinny ~ You're saying they create the illusion that I'm skinny.
Sometimes I do this to him just for fun. (I sound like a joy to live with don't I?)
Nothing deep or insightful today just a funny observation I thought I would share. Makes you all pity my husband a little doesn't it? He is a wonderful man to put up with me, I'm the first to admit it.
Have a good weekend and you all look really nice today.
Thanks for reading.
