Whose Idea Was This?

Well, I've finally been able to get in the Christmas spirit. Thanks in part to two, count them, two headache free days. I thought it would be fun to make a little list of things you see at Christmas that I find annoying and/or ridiculous. I so should have gone into marketing. I would have loved to be at the table where these ideas got pitched.

Lets kick things off right with

A Very Brady Christmas

Sadly, I've watched this more then once. I don't know why, so please don't ask. Somehow the Bradys with adult problems not nearly as much fun as it sounds. I do love that poor Alice still has to wear her uniform. Come on Mike, ya Nazi, let her wear regular clothes while she cooks and cleans for you.

The Polar Express
Don't get me wrong I love the book and the message, but I hated the movie. Realistic animation kind of freaks me out. Just make it live action if your going to do that.

The Singing Bass
My grandparents have one of these and the stupid thing drives me nuts. First off it's motion activated so it always startles me. Plus it's dumb. Who thought of this? I shouldn't judge they're probably a millionaire sitting on a beach somewhere sipping margaritas.

Love on Layaway by Gloria Estefan

Oh, Gloria. You should have turned this beat around. This horrible song was a staple in our Muzak when I worked at CATO. I can honestly say that I hate it. It contains the line, "Gonna put some love on layaway for you", need I say more.

Fruitcake

To be honest I've never actually eaten a fruit cake. But look at it! I don't thing I'm going to. I think it's kind of funny that they sell them. Who buys them and are they joking? This gem is from Hostess. Why sully the good name of Twinkies and Ho hos with this monstrosity?

Real Candles on Christmas Trees
I don't think many people do this anymore, but I'm amazed it ever seemed like a good idea. Hello, fire hazard.! Although it would be fun to watch a tree burst into flames, as long as it's not my tree.

Yoko's singing on Happy Christmas (War is Over)
I actually like this song except the part where Yoko sings with the kids. All I can think is, Really John, Really? No one at this recording session had the guts to tell her she's completely tone deaf?
California Raisins Christmas Special and Album
I remember watching this when I was little. The thought of it is still so ridiculous and ill conceived I can't help but smile. The 80s what a magical time.

What do you find completely ridiculous, annoying or just outrageously bad this time of year?
I've heard lots of rumors about at Star Wars Christmas special complete with dancing Wookies, but I've never actually seen it so I left it off my list. I think it would be fun to mock that sometime if anyone has a video. (Please oh Please have a video.)

Thanks for reading.

I just get annoyed with myself because I stop enjoying the holiday because of the gift scramble and event overload. Cute post...

i'm with andrea.... i think we have gotten away from what Christmas is really about. as i was wrapping presents this year i thought to myself.... why do we ask people what they want? all we are doing is exchanging money for money really. i think we should get away from "what do you want" or "what's on your list?" just go out and buy them something that is coming from "YOU" and that will make it even more special. sorry, got off on a tangent there. love your post.

You didn't mention the local TV stations commercials for local businesses. Example: Van Buren County Hospital's employees singing their version of "Up on the Rooftop".I saw it this morning, and thanked God, right then and there, that I don't know any of these poor soles, and don't have to work at a place that makes me do something like that.
