Fulton Flash

I don't have anything to say today so I thought I would do another woman's biography for Women's History Month.
This is Helen Stephens (1918-1994), otherwise known as the Fulton Flash. She is from Fulton Missouri and was an Olympian in 1936, when she was 18. A feet made even more amazing when you consider that at the time there were no athletic programs for women. She won two gold medals and set a world record for the 100 meter dash that stood for 24 years.
After the Olympics she got her degree from William Woods College and played for a semi-pro basketball team. She later founded her own team and became the first women to own and manage a semi-pro basketball team.
She worked as a research librarian for 30 years in St. Louis. She also competed in Senior Olympic Games. When she ran the 100 meter dash at 68 she was only 4 seconds slower then her world record time.
If your a dork (like myself) and would be interested in reading about other famous Missouri women you can check out the State Historical Society website.
Thanks for reading.
