It was a day in the mid 80's I'm guessing '87 or '88, but I can't be sure. It was mid morning on a day in late spring. The weather was warm the grass was that amazing color of bright green it is in the spring. Casey was riding his bike, my mom was in the kitchen with the windows open so you could hear everything she did in the yard. I was running around picking Bird's foot trefoil, probably a bouquet for my mom, in one of those great one piece shorts outfits that I lived in in the 80's. ( You know the kind that ties at the shoulder, and were you have to get naked to go to the bathroom. My mom loved those.)

That's it. I'm sure I went in for lunch and then came immediately back outside. My mom had a strict no kids in the house on nice days rule. My childhood is filled with memories like this. I remember feeling very carefree and happy. This is exactly how I want my kids to grow up. Carefree and happy.
I was thinking this morning about how ready I am to play outside with Levi again and this great memory popped into my head. Strange I guess nothing really happens in it, but I remember it like it was yesterday. I'm so looking forward to lazy, dirty child filled days.
Hope you all have some warm memories to get you through this very cold day.
Thanks for reading.

what a great memory! isn't it so much fun to have those wonderful memories to be able to share with your kids? glad you were able to warm yourself up today!
i remember playing outside with the neighbor boys and i have pictures of me shirtless b/c i wanted to be just like them. i was such a tomboy:)
I wanted a picture of you in the outfit. . . :)
I agree wholeheartedly, though. I think kids too often have to grow up too fast--and it's simply not fair. I read something on a friend's blog today about our job as parents is to protect our children's identity so they can be who they really are and not have to pretend to be someone they aren't (to fit in, to live up to someone's expectation, whatever). It really made me think.
Goes with what you said--carefree and happy--just being you, a KID!
i'm hoping that's how my children will remember their childhood....it's such a hard balance between teaching them responsibility with work/chores and not overdoing it and squashing the "carefreeness" of them...
