It's official I'm a prude.
I got my Halloween costume catalog yesterday and decided after flipping through it that I'm glad I don't have a girl. I would say that about 75% of the PRE-teen girls costumes look like they were designed by pedophiles. They all seem to include a very short skirt and a tank top designed to make you look like you have boobs before you actually do. Great, just what I want my 11 and 12 year old wearing. Hey, could you include an "Abduct me Please" sign for them to wear also? I was going to include pictures but decided I wasn't comfortable having those pictures on my blog. (Don't want to get red flagged or anything.) These are just the pre-teen costumes. Once you get to the teen costumes the word naughty is used in several descriptions.
I'm curious what your opinions are on this. Especially those of you who have daughters. Am I just overly defensive because I have a kid now, or have things really gotten a little out of hand. I mean I realize that I wore midriff baring shirts in high school and all but things just seem to be getting worse. I can't imagine wearing outfits like these in public. The worst part is apparently parents buy them for there daughters, CRAZY!
Please comment if you read this. I really do want to know if I'm totally off base. I have no problem with opposing opinions. Tell me if I'm the crazy one.

I'm totally in agreement. Mike and I are already discussing these things in regards to Natalee. From little things like no Bratz dolls in the house, to other things like no clothes with words on the fanny and none of this skimpy slinky junk. It's ridiculous. They are little girls for goodness sake! As a mother of a little boy I'm glad you care because you are tasked with the hard job of teaching your son how to appropriately react to those clothes & that those outfits don't make a righteous woman...ug! You aren't crazy...you're right on!
I have to agree too. I dont think that these costumes are appropriate for teens. Esp on a cold October night! I never did wear midriff shirts, but only because it wouldnt have been a pretty sight! lol! but on a serious note, the poor girls that wear these things need more supervision from a RESPONSIBLE adult!

you are totally not crazy!! this is one time i am so thankful for boys! but after reading jenn's comment, i hadn't even thought of what she said about the job of teaching our sons about the girls outfits. oh my!! i do think that things have progressively gotten worse. and i think a lot of the problem is b/c these days parents want to be their kids "friend" instead of their parent! and a lot of parents are just kid themselves and the kids are only learning from example.
Ummm...it's already an issue. More for Vance than me, I'll let Emma wear something that is too short around the house b/c she loves the dress. It drives him crazy and he wants her to change. Thanks for thinking of us mom's of girls. How true!

It *is* terrible and I agree, too many parents want, not only to be their kid's friend, but for their child to be 'cool' and 'cute' and 'popular' regardless of the price, so they buy this stuff for them.
Trust Vance on this one, Andrea, I've learned from Alan that our men *know* what guys are thinking when girls dress like that and he just doesn't want her to get *comfortable* dressing like that. I'm with you, Jenn, no Bratz dolls, and Destry TOTALLY notices this sort of thing and we've talked about it a lot. He practices 'bouncing his eyes' away from these poor, insecure girls (who think they have nothing more to offer than their bodies) and has made a covenant with his eyes not to look lustfully at a girl (Job 31:1). It's not too early, Bree! :)
