Baby Knits

I can't think of anything thought invoking to blog about today, so I'll bore you all with more knitting talk.
One of the girls we play Bunco with is pregnant (actually two of them are pregnant, but I've already made a present for one) and I wanted to make her baby a gift. She doesn't know what she's having which makes knitting something a little tricky. I'm finding that a lot of the patterns look kind of girly and even if they don't it's hard to find yarn that won't look girly. So I've come up with some options and I would like some opinions. Especially Bree's, who knows Amanda's taste way better then I do. Option #1: Generic hat. I'd probably do this in the Orange I used for Natalee's hat and Levi's pillow. (See previous post Pillow Wrestling) I think oranges are good for gender neutral because blue no matter the shade always looks boyish and I hate that mint green color.
Option #2: Booties. I think these are super cute but maybe just a little girly. The yarn I have in mind is white, blue, and yellow. Option #3: Snuggle Bunny like the one I made for Heather's baby. This is definitely gender neutral just depends on the yarn choice. I actually have this yarn in this color, purple, and gray. I'm afraid the gray would be to dark for a baby and the other two colors seem a little girly. I can get new yarn I just don't know what color to make it.
Is it just me or do all baby things look kind of girly? I always felt like all the gender neutral stuff we got for Levi looked girly on him. I'm all for not finding out what your having I just wish that they would make it easier to buy gender neutral clothes. Everything is either pale yellow or mint green. I don't really like either of those colors. I mean would it kill them to make bright yellow baby clothes or orange or red? Okay, done with that rant.
Please let me know what you think. I'm a slow knitter so I need to start pretty soon.
Thanks for reading.
P.S. I am aparently spelling girly wrong becasue spell check hits it everytime. Anybody know how to spell it? Or is it not a word?

I think the third option. I could see a little one snuggling with that. How about chocolate brown? That is a hot color now and you could always add some pink or blue to it after she had the baby if you wanted.

I had no idea she read my blog! That'll teach me to assume. I'm loving the chocolate brown idea. Thanks Angie. I'll have to see what kind yarn I can find.
And Bree thank you for the correct spelling of girlie. I'd hate to go on looking like an idiot. Well at least for his particular offense.

we love our orange but i think red could go both ways, too. like the bright colors but brown is in style. i'm with you...i could have puked mint green & yellow after our gender neutral shower, but i still wouldn't trade not finding out.
